Five (5) Steps To Take To Truly Know Yourself . . .

What does it mean to truly ‘know yourself?’ You are not born knowing who you are, and when you do not know yourself it becomes apparent.

This creates frustrating and a feeling of being stuck.

By understanding who you are, your values and your purpose you can design the life you want to live.

Here are five (5) things you can do to dig deep, get under the surface of who you are and build self-awareness:

Step #1: Be honest with yourself

The goal of this exercise is to not pick at all of your flaws and downfalls.

It is to learn all aspects of yourself and recognise each aspect of your personality.

By being honest with yourself you open yourself up to the possibilities of learning new things about yourself.

Step #2: Ask yourself the tough and thought-provoking questions

Take the time to really get to know yourself and ask yourself thought-provoking questions.

Journal your thoughts and mull over them for a while.

The answers to your questions do not have to be set in stone – you can change your mind.

Step #3: Pay attention

What you say to yourself matters!

Your inner-critic that is negative, hurtful and down-right mean needs to be told to stop.

When you start to be mean to yourself, try and stop yourself straight away.

Challenge the mean things you say and turn them around into something kind or positive.

Ask yourself: If I was talking to a friend right now, what would I say?

Step #4: Practice self-care each day

Self-care is care provided by you to you and it is important.

You can not pour from an empty cup, therefore taking even 5-10 minutes a day to do something that energises you or calms you will greatly benefit your physical, mental and emotional health.

Some self-care activies could include taking 5 deep breaths; going for a short 5 minute walk or even just stretching your body.  

Step #5: Seek guidance from a mentor

Sometimes it takes someone from the outside looking in to help you truly understand yourself and for you to grow into your true potential.

By seeking assistance from a mentor you can design the life you have always wanted.
